Our Story
PosteRazor was born from the humble vision of a group of design-loving open-source developers: to empower everyone to effortlessly create professional-quality large-format posters, thereby completely dismantling the technical barriers to poster creation. Our journey began in 2005, when a few geeks deeply immersed in the open-source software realm—alongside graphic design enthusiasts—came together. They keenly identified a long-standing pain point within the industry: existing poster-making software was either overly complex and required a steep learning curve—intimidating the average user—or it offered only rudimentary features, failing to satisfy the boundless creative demands of artists. Countless creators were deterred by tedious layout settings and rigid size specifications; brimming with inspiration, they nonetheless struggled to translate their ideas into polished, tangible poster artworks. Thus, PosteRazor emerged to fill this void. With its minimalist workflow and powerful automatic layout capabilities, the software allows users to simply import an image and adjust a few basic parameters to quickly generate high-resolution poster files ready for immediate printing and assembly—ensuring that creativity is no longer held captive by technology.

Our Team
PosteRazor is developed by a dedicated, international team of more than 30 specialists with decades of combined experience in graphic design, digital printing, image processing, and open-source software engineering.
Leadership Team
Lukas Müller, Founder & Lead Developer
Lukas Müller initiated the PosteRazor project in 2004 and has led its development ever since. With deep expertise in cross-platform programming, image analysis, and print layout algorithms, he identified a critical gap in the market: simple, free, and reliable software for splitting large images into printable poster segments. He has continuously refined the tool to support multiple operating systems and global user needs.
Elena Carter, UX & Design Director
Elene Carter brings over 11 years of experience in visual communication, user interface design, and print media workflow. She ensures PosteRazor remains intuitive, clean, and accessible for casual users while retaining professional precision for designers and print shops. Her focus on usability has made PosteRazor one of the most widely used free poster tools worldwide.
Raj Patel, Technical Coordinator & Open-Source Lead
With a background in computer science and distributed systems, Raj oversees platform compatibility, code maintenance, and community contributions. He manages cross-platform support for Windows, macOS, and Linux, optimizes performance for high-resolution images, and ensures stable updates for millions of users around the world.
Design & Workflow Team
Our design team consists of 12 professionals with backgrounds in graphic design, typography, large-format printing, and digital imaging. Many have hands-on experience in print production, advertising, and event branding, allowing them to shape PosteRazor’s features around real-world printing challenges. This team ensures every layout, preview, and export function serves practical, real-life design needs.
Development Team
We maintain a 14-person engineering team specializing in image processing, vector rendering, cross-platform development, and file-format optimization. Members include contributors from open-source communities, digital imaging labs, and printing technology firms, bringing advanced algorithms for precise tiling, scaling, and alignment that make large-format poster creation fast and accurate.
User Support & Community Team
Our user success team is led by professionals with experience in graphic design support, print services, and open-source community management. They understand the technical hurdles users face when preparing large posters, banners, and murals. Every team member is trained in PosteRazor’s workflow and print standards to provide clear, effective guidance for hobbyists, students, designers, and professional printers alike.
Our Approach
What makes PosteRazor unique is its user-driven, practical development philosophy. Unlike overly complex design suites or limited online tools, PosteRazor was built by people who understand exactly what users need when creating oversized prints: speed, simplicity, and reliability.
We believe in:
Practical Functionality
Every feature in PosteRazor is built to solve real printing problems: image splitting, margin control, overlap adjustment, page alignment, and multi-page export.
Continuous Improvement
We actively engage with designers, teachers, printers, and artists worldwide, integrating their feedback into regular updates to improve compatibility, speed, and usability.
User-Centered Development
Our development roadmap is shaped directly by how people actually use PosteRazor — for school projects, event posters, street art, murals, exhibitions, and personal creative work.
Accessible Support
We provide free documentation, visual guides, and community resources to help users master poster creation, not just the software itself.
Innovation & Development
The PosteRazor project remains at the forefront of lightweight, open-source design tools. Our development team continuously explores new technologies to improve precision and flexibility:
Advanced Image Processing
We invest in research to enhance high-resolution image handling, automatic cropping, color management, and sharpness preservation during scaling. Our algorithms ensure posters remain clear even when enlarged to several meters.
Cross-Platform & Modern Compatibility
We develop improved support for latest operating systems, new image formats, and cloud-based workflows, allowing users to create posters seamlessly across devices.
Efficient Printing Tools
We refine layout optimization to reduce paper waste, improve cut accuracy, and simplify assembly — making large posters easier to create, glue, and display.
Our Vision
As PosteRazor grows and evolves, we remain committed to making professional poster creation accessible to everyone. We want PosteRazor to be more than a tool — it is a creative enabler that connects personal ideas to physical, visible results.
Our roadmap includes enhanced image analysis, smarter automatic layout suggestions, improved community sharing features, and expanded support for large-scale murals and public art installations.
Through open-source spirit, consistent innovation, and deep respect for user needs, we aim to make large-format poster design simpler, more efficient, and more accessible to creators everywhere.
